Performance Tax on Radio Stations
So for the first time tonight I heard on the radio an announcement saying that the recording industry is trying to put a performance tax on AM/FM radio stations that would send the money straight to the record companies(according to sources three of the four are overseas). Instead of playing songs for free by receiving free promo songs from labels (like they've been doing) they will pay taxes on the plays. What's your guys opinions on this?
Re: Performance Tax on Radio Stations
Gee that wont lead to pirate radio stations at all....I think its a dumb idea to tax an already sinking industry because you are part of the old guard and have a sense of entitlement to what was never really yours to the begin with...In short FUCK THE RECORD LABELS! LONG LIVE FREE ENTERPRISE MUSIC! Also see twisted hillbilly mag for bands that have this same mantra
My right hand holds a vile of trainqualizers
My left hand holds a loaded .38
I've got a young girl who's anticipating romance
And now the only little love that's left is a loaded gun

Re: Performance Tax on Radio Stations
This will be discussed on the next show. I will say this, just when I thought the RIAA couldn't piss the world off anymore? Ugg.
The NAB probably contribute a few billion dollars a fucking year to record sales as is. Its always been a symbiotic relationship that benefits all parties.
Outside of the difficulty wrapping my head around this, it is harder still for me to find a list of government officials supporting it. I will by the next show though.
EXCELLENT SUBMISSION.
Oh an bro-scro, I don't think it will lead to more pirate stations, just more internet radio, podcasts, ect. Pirate radio station affiliation will get your license revoked and banned and the government does scan for this shit. I have helped with pirate stations in the past though, its pretty funny to see utterly mad scientist it looks.

But my conspiracy theory head says the Red's would take it farther.
