I have a top 50 list. No shit. So I'm just going to post random picks here and why for a few weeks.
12 Angry Men. Almost the entire movie is filmed in one room as a single juror tries to convince 11 other men that the defendant is innocent. One guy paid attention, the other 11 all want to fry the defendant for various reasons. Its one of the most unsettling things I've ever seen... that whole one room aspect really starts to deteriorate your senses. A part of you really feels like you are in the room for the argument. Its a really good flick, a fucking classic.
Momento. Any movie you have to explain its chronological order with a math equation is awesome. Nolan's first work, he's yet to disappoint.

Army of Darkness - Because this is my mother fucking boomstick. Simple as that.
Taxi Driver - Because its the best "destruction of a person" movie ever made. My favorite movies seem to blur the lines of protagonist / antagonist. There is no right or wrong about Travis Bickle.
Ghostbusters - my alltime favorite comedy
Scarface - Because this is movie aside from the violence and the FUCK!!! ever few seconds is actually making a few incredible points. Its a much deeper movie than most people think.
Devils Rejects - I love revenge style movies. I love old grindhouse flicks. This movie takes all those old cool road trip movies like Russ Myer used to do and mixes it with a good ol fashion murdering. The music is good too. Aside from the annoying use of animation for blood this movies pretty much perfect. Best use of freebird EVER. Also, the lines of protangist and antagonist are totally blurred in this movie. It humanizes the murderers and destroys the "good guys". You pull for the murderers... something is kind of amazing about that.
Dawn of the Dead -if you like zombie movies, for my money this is the best one ever made. And the social commentary is pretty damned funny.
Dogma - Best Kevin Smith movie, ever.
Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 - best B horror movie ever made. And one of my all time favorite revenge style flicks. Again, blurred lines of P/ A.
Requiem for a dream - ok its not the feel good movie of the year, but..... it should be on everyones bucket list.
The GodFather 2 - Because its probably one of the most imitated movies of all time. Its just that most movies try to cover this much ground in a trilogy. Best mafia movie ever made.
Goodfellas - thank you for making Joe Pesci the baddest sonovabitch alive.
Dark Knight - as a life long comic fan, I can't tell you how much this gets right.
More later

Some of my Favorite Movies that haven't already been listed already by others.....
Seven Samurai - There is a reason it was remade by Hollywood as the western "The Magnificent 7". Aside from that Akira Kurosawa is an AMAZING director and cinematographer. ALL his films are amazing.
Battle Royal - a whole class of 7th graders are put on an island and told they have to kill one another till only one is left... all by government order.
Fun ensues
Beauty and the Beast - 1946 black and white, directed by Jean Cocteau. Every version of Beauty and the beast has stolen direct elements of Jean Cocteau's Vision of the story.
