Well I would say most people call me a yuppie because I work a 9 to 5 job in corporate america, I live in the suburbs, have been known to wear khakis, and drive a sedan. I don't drink Starbucks, I'm not rich, and I don't wear or care about designer crap. Those are typically traits of a yuppie. You're in NYC, right? Think of young assholes that work on wall street, live near central park, go to the Hamptons. That's a yuppie.
A hipster is someone who tries to be all about non mainstream stuff, and appear smarter and more cultured than other people. Some of them wear skinny jeans and sweaters with blazers. They are also obsessed with being 'edgy' and coffee, like Starbucks and Caribu Coffee. They try to be non-conformists but only for non-conformity's sake, not because they actually have their own ideas. Reminds me of high school when everyone wanted to be straight-edge, but only because they wanted to be able to say they were straight-edge, not because they actually wanted to be drug-free. (Showing my age, because I don't think anyone even says straight-edge anymore.) Adam Levine is a hipster. But I would still stuff his nuts in my mouth if given the opportunity.

So yuppie is my past employer that should be getting the sexual harassment lawsuit soon and hipsters are the people who flood the campus coffee shop and talk about mindless dribble.
One of the very few respectable postions I had was my very short lived life as a secretary on wall st.
Nothing breeds hatred for humanity than stupid young men who have too much money and not enough sense and think that just because women work for them, that they own them.
Meh either way my initial categorization of both groups into the faggot pile was not incorrect.

1. Yes, that is correct.

I was fairly sure that in many cases yuppie and douchebag were synonymous.

Not always so. Douchebag is more of a subspecies present in all archtypes, in all walks of life. You can have hipster douchebags, yuppie douchebags, hipster douchebags, goth douchebags.
Douchebaggery transends social and cultural boundries.

Did you mention hipster douchebags twice for a reason?
