A TENS unit dulls sensation by shocking the pain receptors in nerve endings. Which is why it's used as a therapy for chronic pain in certain nerves. If you tried that with a TENS unit it, you wouldn't feel very much unless you connected it to a car battery.

Depends on the frequency applied. I had (have? It might be around here somewhere) one, specifically for making muscles contract and release, which improves muscle tone.

I haven't personally used it for sexual purposes, but I did date a few women who got a kick out of it. (Obviously, I've since thrown those particular pads away.)

The one for making muscles contract is a different unit I believe. TENS units are used to, well, basically to overload nerves and dull sensations of pain due to nerve damage.

From personal experience (but sadly not sexual) TENS are also used to stimulate nerves and when attached to damaged nerves, they hurt like hell.

On the sexual side, we saw a demonstration once with an insertable where it triggered the muscles that are associated with the female orgasm (kegel muscles).
